Project Description

Fish remains an important source of protein for most Ghanaians. Today, less than 50% of fish needs is produced locally, with imports supplying the remainder. That notwithstanding, local production relies heavily (about 80%) on marine fishing, with fears of gradual depletion of stocks.

Agritop Limited has developed and constructed the National Aquaculture Centre, together with MOFAD, providing the greatest potential of meeting the deficit in fish production in Ghana.  :

  • Introduce modern technologies in the Aquaculture sector – Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) production
  • Increase local fish production
  • Train fish farmers of Ghana in efficient fish production

The state-of-the-art National Aquaculture Centre consists of a training centre and a commercial fish production farm, with targeted annual production of 200 tons of fresh fish.

Facilities

1. Commercial Fish Farm

Greenhouse structures (5,340m2), Nurseries structures (540m2), Prawns growing unit (1,000m2), Tilapia and Catfish tanks with aerators (2,111m3)Water reservoirs – tanks (4,000m3), Water reservoir – earth (40,000m3),Filtration units, Postharvest Centre, Laboratory, Sedimentation Ponds

2. Training Centre

Accommodation for 24-30 trainees as well as trainers , managers and support staff, Classroom and Offices, Computer Library, Laboratory, RAS training structures, Operation and Storage Centre – Field class, Recreational centre
